Sports Heroes

Many local sports businesses have suffered during Covid-19. There’s a fear that 25% of grassroots sports clubs may not return after lockdown, because of the financial difficulties it would take to run things properly. As a result, this has caused activity levels among young people to have dropped by 2.3% in the summer of 2020 compared to the previous year before Covid-19.

The aim with Sports Heroes is to create a coaching and mentoring programme which is designed to engage with young people between the ages of 12-16. The programme will partner up with schools and local sports clubs, to provide teenagers with a chance to get more involved in the world of sports and develop skills that will help them thrive in the future.

Sports Heroes looks to provide teenagers with opportunities for a future career in sports, as there is a ranking system in place in the form of certificates to track their progression over the years. By encouraging young people to volunteer and willingly participate, it should result in local clubs being able to get the help they need to run things properly again, without worrying about staff restrictions.
